People Change
People change. šš¦»I didnāt hear the āaffirmationā i was expecting ⦠thought Iād get a more resounding āAmenā than i heard. Soā¦lemme explain why i said it. We will hate certain foods when weāre young, but as we age, so does our taste buds, causing us to like some of those foods that useta make us gag. Our preferences in clothing styles changeā¦our desires and dreams change as we get olderā¦our āgotta havesā aināt as important as we thought they were, and reality sets in and our contentment levels settle in for the long haul. I woke up this morning hearing the following statement in my head : ā Does got tired of the same olā station so he changed it. Heās no longer called, āDoesnātā. š§ Weird; huh ? It reminded me of a period in my life when i was in my early teens and painting houses with my uncles, a cousin and a couple more local guys while outta school for the summer ⦠and yeahā¦we used tā have the whole summer to do whateverā¦like 3 months ⦠so thereās another āchangeā for ya. I was too cool for that hayseed country music or them āgospel greatsā, but thatās all my uncle Phil would listen to on the little radio heād bring to the jobsites. I vaguely remember an older young man ( Mike Little ) urging me to go change the channel so we could listen to āourā kinda music ⦠that good ol rock n roll. Iās game, so i rolled the knob till it landed on some music you could work to ⦠until uncle Phil came from another part of the house and changed it back. I gave him time to make it back outta sight and settle in to whatever he was doin, then eased back over and changed the station again. Eventually, he came back around and returned it to the station āheā liked and mumbled something that went in my left ear and came right out my right one. I was as stubborn as he was and still young, so i gave it one more try after heād disappeared towards the back of the house. Wasnāt long, he came back even more frustrated and just cut the radio off ⦠sayin, ā If I canāt listen to what I wanna listen to, we just wonāt listen to anything.ā I guess it was āhisā radio. I still like a little little rock n roll every now and then, and Iāll always like some countryā¦but as my heart changed, so did my ātasteā for the āmessagesā of the music. I hear different genres glorifying alcoholism, sexual immorality and foul talk, and i haveta turn it off or change the channel. I figure if Jesus would go to such great lengths for me, the least i could do is not listen to stuff that dishonors Him. People change as their hearts change. People change as their hearts change. ( He told me to say it twice ). There was another young man that became king at 16 years old. He kept the title for 52 years by ādoing what was right in the eyes of the LORDā , just as his daddy had done. He sought God in all his ways and listened to other God-fearing men who instructed him in the fear of the LORD. As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success. But⦠as he became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, and āchanged the channelā (2Chronicles: 26:3-16 ). We may experience some success while living outside the will of God ⦠we might even hold some pretty high positions of authority ⦠but sooner than later, thereās gonna come a day of reckoning. Because i didnāt āfearā the owner of the radio, out of a prideful heart, i had to work in ānothingnessā for the remainder of the day. My attitude changed and i learned a valuable lessonā¦no thanks to Mike Little š. One of the greatest truths contained in Godās written Word is( 2 Corinthians 5:17 ) ā¦ā Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.ā Lord, I hope this strikes a chord with more than me. In Jesusā name ⦠Amen.
